Phone plans
Your phone bill may be three purchases in one.
Service, the handset, and protection deserve separate decisions.
An illustrative starting point. Make the numbers yours below.
Split an illustrative $115 monthly phone budget into service, device payments, and protection. Keeping those lines separate makes it easier to understand what ends and what continues.

Unbundle the bill on paper
Find the charge for the service plan, any device installment, and protection or extras. Check whether the quoted plan price includes taxes and fees. Do not assume a device promotion makes the handset free.
Check what happens when an installment ends
A device payment may end on a different date from a discount or promotional credit. Use the actual installment schedule and terms before extending today's bill across a whole year.
Compare coverage before switching
An alternative plan should meet your needs for coverage, data, hotspot use, and international access. Check any device balance, unlock requirements, and promotion conditions rather than comparing only the advertised monthly number.
