A gym membership is a plan. How often do you use it?

The useful question is not just the monthly fee. It is what you get from it.

An illustrative starting point. Make the numbers yours below.

Explore an illustrative $60 monthly gym budget, including a monthly allowance for an annual fee. Then compare it with your own visits and the facilities you actually use.

Separate the contract from the habit

The membership charge can continue whether you go twice or twenty times. Look at your real visit history before comparing memberships, and include any annual fee rather than overlooking it at renewal.

Price per visit is only one lens

For a personal comparison, divide your monthly membership cost by the number of visits in that month. Convenience, coaching, classes, and having a space you enjoy can matter too. A cheaper gym you do not use may not be better value.

Read the exit terms

Check your own contract for a notice period, cancellation method, freeze option, and any outstanding commitment. This example does not assume you can cancel immediately or recover money already paid.
